Dandy Darkly’s Pussy Panic!
Dandy's 2014 solo show focused on the insidiously casual misogyny practiced by too many gay men. Stories ranged from a young lady pulverizing the patriarchy with her kleptomaniacal plumbing, a celebrity mommy obsessed with reinvention, a mincing mortician specializing in the funerals of the rich and famous and a tender hearted love story featuring retired lesbian witches. Pussy Panic! was heralded as a feminist celebration of the classic interpretations of womanhood, the maiden, the mother and the crone, and a flamboyant fuck-you to men around the world, Pussy Panic! included observations on the pro-choice debate, the military-industrial complex and the terrors of straight white male America. The show set the tone for Dandy's politically charged future projects. Featuring music by Adam Tendler, Rachel Blumberg and Bryce Edwards. Directed by Ian Bjorklund.
"Dandy Darkly’s Pussy Panic is a serious-minded show steeped in cattiness, absurdity and gore. Whatever you do, do go down into the cellar."
★★★★★ The Edinburgh Reporter
"Shriekingly camp – a self-conscious throwback to an outmoded type of waspish wit – but the prickly persona is the vehicle for stories of gruesomely compelling verve. Creepy and clammy it might be, the show’s political potency ultimately makes it a feminist fiesta."
★★★★ The Scotsman
"Unsettling, hilarious and political, Dandy Darkly's Pussy Panic is a searing critique of queer culture, celebrity obsession and misogyny."
★★★★ The List
"Darkly is exactly what we need – a celebration of our campest, creepiest selves."
★★★★★ Scotsgay Magazine
